James 2:1-4

“My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favouritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, ‘Here’s a good seat for you,’ but say to the poor man, ‘You stand there’ or ‘Sit on the floor by my feet,’ have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?”

August 3rd is ‘Big Forehead Day’
According to the Days of the Year website, this day is, “dedicated to those who have big foreheads, promoting a positive self-image and helping to dismantle some of the negative stigmas associated with having a larger forehead.”

I’m sure that you know the expression, ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’, but how often do we fall into the trap of doing so when we see people? The book of James warns us not to judge people by how they look when coming into church. The Lord Jesus Himself was rejected, scorned and His appearance was “so disfigured beyond that of any human being and his form marred beyond human likeness” (Isaiah 52:14) He looked down from the cross at those who hated Him and said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing”. (Luke 23:34) Let us try to see people as Jesus would… with love.
